Batawang vs Solis March 27 in Acapulco
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 10 Mar 2010

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has granted formal sanction approval for the IBF Jr. Flyweight Elimination fight for the number 1 contender ranking between IBF number 3 Ulises Solis (29W- 2L-2D, 20 KO?s) of Mexico and IBF number 9 Bert ?The Ninja? Batawang (45 W -14 L- 3 D , 37 KO?s) of the Philippines. The bout is scheduled for March 27, 2010 in Acapulco, Mexico. The winner will be the mandatory challenger of current IBF champ Carlos Tamara of Colombia.
Batawang was initially scheduled to face Solis last March 6 in Tepic, Mexico. It was then postponed to March 20. Promoter Sammy Gello-ani informed through e-mail that the IBF has approved the request for the change in date and site.
Filipino fight fans obviously want to see another Filipino get a crack at Tamara after he dethroned Brian Viloria in their IBF world title fight last January in Pasay City. But the 38 year old Batawang is facing long odds. Last December 15, 2007, in Guadalajara, Mexico, Batawang lost to the 28 year old Solis by 9th round TKO when the Mexican was still the reigning IBF lt.flyweight champ.
