SONSONA PUERTO RICO UPDATE PhilBoxing.com Wed, 24 Feb 2010  The amiable promoter of “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona, Sammy Gello-Ani, provides us with an update on the preparations of Sonsona for his upcoming championship fight against the dangerous Wilfredo “WV2” Vazquez Jr. Sonsona’s physical condition At present Team Sonsona is quite pleased with the physical condition of “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona. It seems that the early arrival in Puerto Rico has helped Sonsona acclimatize himself. His daily jogging at the Isla Verde beach line near Verdanza Hotel where the team stays has kept him fit and ready As announced earlier, he is within the required pre-weigh-in weight of 126 lbs. This weight check was done last Feb. 19, 9 days before the fight schedule. Sunday tour Yesterday, Sonsona did his regular jogging in the morning and in the afternoon we was offered a tour by Filipino residents lead by Mrs Rebecca Domingo. Rebecca is the wife of Col. Edwin C. Domingo, US Army Garrison Commander of Fort Buchanan , Puerto Rico . Team Sonsona toured the old San Juan National Historic Sites : Castillo San Felipe del Morro ,Castillo San Cristobal and San Juan de la Cruz as well as the walls of San Juan . These are the largest and oldest spanish fortifications built by the spanish forces. They began construction in 1516 and took them 250 years to complete. Back to work Today, Monday Sonosna resumed his regular training schedule, early morning jog along Isla Verde beach line and proceeded to the Wilfredo Gomez Gym in the afternoon to continue the daily routine. After the training, Marvin scheduled his HIV and Drug test in the Bayamon hospital, as required by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission. Since his advance test in the Philippines submitted to the commission is more than 30 days now, he will need o repeat the test. All licensing requirements have been completed and fighter and cornerman, Nonito Donaire Sr. have been issued Puerto Rican licenses.
