CSAC HOLDS WINTER BOXING CONFAB
By Jonathan Davis PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Feb 2010
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) on Sunday, held a one-day Boxing Officials Training Clinic at the Junipero Serra State Building on West 4th Street, Los Angeles, CA, attended by the general membership, composed of Inspectors, Referees, Judges, Ring Physicians, and Timekeepers all over California. New Executive Officer and Commissioner, George Dodd laid out the plans of the Commission, including the performance evaluation of all officials, particularly Referees and Judges and the creation of a rating system that would classify them as Class A, B, or C Referees/Judges, which would serve as basis in the priority of assignments of upcoming boxing events and the prestige of the fights, such as, world title, regional, or regular activity fights.
Grizzled veterans and boxing legends like Marty Denkin (Scoring and Judging Clinic), Raul Caiz, Sr. (Code of Conduct), Dr. Lou Moret (Pre-fight Instructions), Jack Reis, (Theory on Stopping fights), Pat Russel (Ring Mechanics), Dr. James Jen Kin, (Judging the Intangibles) were resource speakers. The same group later formed the panel that tackled on Unusual Scenarios in the ring, which served as the highlight of the seminar, providing for the most spirited and dynamic discussion.
George Dodd announced the issuance of a uniform ID for all members, but that attendance in the annual Seminars qualifies a member for assignments beginning in 2010.
