VALERO STOPS DE MARCO IN NINE
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Feb 2010
WBC Lightweight champion Edwin Valero of Venezuela proved too much for young Antonio de Marco of Mexico.
Early on the second round, de Marco accidentally elbowed Valero on the right forehead opening a nasty cut that measured about two inches. It was also deep.
But the ringside doctor allowed the fight to go on.
Valero sensing that the cut may stop the fight and he may end on the losing end threw everything he had on the young de Marco.
Valero fought much like Pacquiao did against Cotto. He bobbed, he weaved and threw punches from all angles many time confusing the young de Marco. He also utilized a fancy footwork that surprised even the TV analysts.
De Marco tried his darn best but he had no answer to the swarming multiple combinations thrown by Valero.
Before the 10th round started, de Marco’s corner advise referee Lawrence Cole Jr that the youngster had enough and asked that the fight be stopped.
Valero thus won via TKO and kept his record immaculate at 27-0-0. he also retained his WBC Lightweight title.
