By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sat, 27 Aug 2005
Davao City's welter journeyman Jesar Ancajas scored a majority decision win over Australia's Adrian Campbell at Panthers World Entertainment Center in Penrith, NSW, Australia yesterday. FightNews reported that Ancajas (14-12-2) sent the upstart Campbell (6-3) to the canvas in the first round and inflicted a cut under his opponent's eye in the third round.
Two judges scored the 6-round contest 58-56 in favor of Ancajas while the third judge declared it a draw at 57-57.
This is Jesar's first win in Australia this year after suffering three consecutive defeats earlier against three different Australian opponents most notable of which was against ranked Australian Lovermore N'Dou where he suffered a second round stoppage for the IBF Pan Pacific light welter title on March 27. N'Dou was the boxer who fought and lost a close unanimous decision against Miguel Cotto for the unified WBC, WBA, IBF light welter title in the undercard of the Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 8, 2004.
Meanwhile, three Filipino boxers suffered defeats at the hands of Thais last August 25 in Chainart, Thailand.
Rey Llagas lost a lopsided unanimous decision to David Lookmahanak over 12 rounds for the WBC Asian Boxing Council super flyweight title. Joel Bauya, who last month lost his Philippine bantam belt in a controversial fashion against Michael Domingo, this time lost to Veeraphol Sahaprom over 10 rounds with scores of 92-98, 92-98, 92-98.
Rounding up the defeats is Julius Tarona who was TKO'd by Napapol Kiatisakchokchai in the 9th round of their 10-round featherweight encouter. The journeyman Tarona now dropped to 24-21-3 (11 KOs).
