VILLAREAL AND SANTOS VOW TO BEAT ALA BOYS

PhilBoxing.com

WBC Youth Intercontinental Flyweight Champion Anthony Villareal of the USA is in town and confident of victory against challenger Milan Melindo of the ALA Gym of Cebu when they face off this January 14 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City. Mexican veteran ?Cecilio ?Boga? Santos who will face another ALA boy AJ Banal in the undercard, also arrived in Cebu last night. The visiting fighters and their trainers faced the Cebu sports media in a press conference held Saturday noon at the Patio Isabel in Talamban, Cebu City.

Villareal said that he has not seen fight films of Melindo but he knows he can beat him. He came prepared and is not entertaining the idea of losing. His style is described by training Alberto Franco as a mix of Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley.

?My fighter is slick. He has Floyd's defense and Mosley's aggressiveness.? Franco said, ?We will bring a style that Melindo has never seen before. He'll make Melindo miss.?

Villareal said that fighting on the road will not be a problem. ?A ring is a ring. It doesn't really matter where.? The defending champion even ring icon Manny Pacquiao's motto, ?Hard training then the fight is easy.? Villareal has also trained at the Wild Card gym. He has sparred with bigger fighters which have been instructed to copy Melindo's style from fight films.

Melindo is undefeated in 19 fights with 5 KO?s while Villareal has a record of 9 wins ? 2 losses with 4 KO?s.

Santos on the other hand said his experience will be his main advantage over Banal. ?I have faced many world champions. I have fought difficult fights. But I feel 2010 will be different and will be a good year for me.?

Villareal and Santos will have a public workout this January 11 Monday 5 PM at the ALA gym located at the Banilad Town Center. Boxing fans are invited to size up for themselves the visiting boxers.
