Rey Bautista to face Columbia's Felix Murillo in Pacquiao/Morales undercard!
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Thu, 11 Aug 2005
Top Rank announced today that Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista's opponent on September 10 under the Pacquiao/Morales doubleheader dubbed "Double Trouble" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will be Columbia's Felix Murillo.
Murillo was reported to have a record of 13-4-1 win-loss-draw. Boxrec has only 2 fights on record for Murillo, both losses, when he was KO'd by Marat Mazimbaev on Sep. 10, 2004 in New Jersey and when he was disqualified by Referee Laurence Cole for excessive holding against Raul Martinez on Nov. 4, 2004 in San Antonio, Texas. He reportedly knocked down Martinez in the first round of that fight.
Murillo appears to be an easier assignment for Boom-Boom than the previously reported Mexican foe Gerardo Espinoza who has a 28-8 win-loss record with 26 KOs.
The previously scheduled August 19 fight of Bautista against Mexico's Samuel Lopez in Stockton, CA. was earlier cancelled in favor of this bout. This will be Bautista's first appearance in front of America's big time boxing audience.
Meanwhile, the entire card of the fully loaded fight event will be formally announced Thursday (Friday in PI), August 11 at the Max's of Manila, 313 West Broadway Ave., Glendale starting at 1:30 p.m.
Headlining the event are the Erik Morales vs. Zahir Raheem and the Manny Pacquiao vs. Hector Velasquez 12-rounders which will be televised by HBO.
Off-HBO TV bouts include:
- Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria vs. Eric Ortiz for the WBC light flyweight championship.
- Urbano Antillo, 15-0, of Maywood, CA, vs. Genaro Trazancos, 21-7-1, of Mexico City, lightweight.
- David Rodela, 2-0-1, of Oxford, CA, vs. Pepe Montoya, 5-1-1, of Arizona, super lightweight.
- USA Olympian Vanes Martiroysan vs. TBA
- and the Bautista vs. Murillo fight.
Manny Pacquiao, Hector Velasquez, Bob Arum, Shelly Finkel and Freddie Roach are the main personalities expected to attend the presscon.
