PhilBoxing.com Sat, 26 Dec 2009
WBO Asia Pacific Minimum-weight and WBA Intercontinental Light Flyweight two divisions champion, Milan “Melenyo” Melindo who will be gunning for his third division title, the WBC Intercontinental Flyweight crown on January 14, 2010 at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino, will display his ware tonight in a 3 round exhibition bout with stablemate RP Flyweight champion, Rocky Fuentes.
The no hold-barred 3 round sparring session will be held at the Gaisano Country Mall which will serve as the special attraction of the bi-monthly SUMMIT AMATEUR BOXING TOURNAMENT. The event is free and open to the public and will start at 6pm.
The undefeated 21yrs. Old Melindo (19-0, 5ko’s) who is ranked # 1 by the WBO, # 3 by the WBA and IBF and # 5 by the WBC in the 105lbs division will move up in weight to challenge 22 yrs. old WBC Youth Intercontinental Flyweight Champion, Anthony Villareal of the United States.
Michael Aldeguer who handles Milan disclosed that “this fight and probably one more will finally bring Melindo to a possible world title challenge against either the WBA Minimum-weight Champion Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua or WBC Champion Oleydong Sithsanerchai of Thailand ”. An impressive win by Melindo is however one of the pre-requisite to make the world title fight happen.
Boxing fans are invited to give their assessment on the undefeated and highly-skilled Melindo when he is tested tonight by ALA Stablemate Rocky Fuentes in a 3 round no-holds-barred “bakbakan” at the Gaisano Country Mall parking area.
Free Complimentary tickets will be given away during the SUMMIT Amateur Boxing event to those who are able to answer questions related to the “Bakbakan” sa Sinulog boxing headlined by Milan Melindo vs Anthony Villareal and AJ Banal against Cecilio Santos of Mexico .
