Team Casimero will be leaving ten days before the scheduled December 19 WBO interim lt.flyweight title fight involving John Reil Casimero of Leyte versus Cesar Canchila of Colombia in Managua, Nicaragua.

This will help in Casimero?s acclimatization for his first fight outside the Philippines. Promoter Sammy Gello-ani said that he has already received a message saying that their visas have been approved. Casimero will continue his training in Managua together with trainers Christopher ?Pingping? Tepora and Nonito Donaire,Sr.

The 20 year old Casimero is from Ormoc, Leyte and is currently residing inside the IPI Gym at Baranggay Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu. He fights right handed and is undefeated in 13 fights with 7 KO?s.

Casimero has been training since July and has sparred around 300 rounds. He has not yet reached the 12 round distance in his pro career but has reached it three times during training.

Cesar Canchila is no pushover having won the WBA interim world crown and has a record of 28W-2L, 22KO?s. Their match-up which will be part of a special major boxing event in Nicaragua in MEMORY OF ALEXIS "EL FLACO EXPLOSIVO" ARGUELLO. This event was the late Arguello's wish when he requested the President of Nicaragua to have a big boxing event in the country. International matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz stressed the importance of bringing in new talent during the press conference held in Nicaragua thus he decided to bring in Casimero.

Casimero won the vacant Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) Flyweight Title August 2008 with a ten round unanimous decision over Rodel Quilaton in Alcoy, Cebu. He then won the WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight title October 2008 with a 5th round TKO over Liempetch Sor Veerapol of Thailand in Talisay City His last fight was in May 2009 at the Cebu Coliseum and scored an 8th round TKO win over Ardin Diale to successfully defend his WBO Asia-Pacific title.

During a conversation he had with this writer Wednesday evening, Casimero expressed confidence that he can handle Canchila as he has seen a couple of his fights already.

The reigning WBO world lt. flyweight champion is Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico. Winning this interim world title will put Casimero closer to a shot at Calderon or will elevate him to champion status if the title is vacated.
