SAFETY TIPS FOR PACQUIAO, COTTO FANS

PhilBoxing.com

No doubt, Pacquiao vs Cotto is the most anticipated boxing match of 2009! Two great fighters, two great nations, both men fighting for their people, one battles for recognition, the other for boxing immortality. With such fighters, there's no wonder why each would have their own fans, but Pacquiao, the fighter who is aiming for his seventh world title in a seventh weight division (Welterweight), has the more devoted fans. Sadly, with Pacquiao's rise to greatness also rises the body count of his fans who died during or after his fights.

The Filipino Pacquiao fans normally watch his fights together with friends and family, sometimes in sports bars or even theaters. A big group watching their boxer in the ring is most likely to produce the most excitement, and this is where the bad things start. Don't forget about how most of the Filipino food are fried or have high cholesterol count. Pacquiao's fans normally die due to heart attacks.

If you read news from the Philippines right after a Pacquiao fight, there's always one or two reports about the deaths of Pacquiao's avid supporters who suffered a heart attack. Maybe it's because of the oily "adobo" or too much San Miguel beer. The excitement in the room with your friends as you watch a Pacquiao match can cause a chain reaction of increased tension, and if your heart is in no condition, then you might suddenly find yourself gasping for air.

To prevent any sad effects for the upcoming Pacquiao vs Cotto fight, please take into consideration the following tips:

1. Find out if you have high blood pressure - Check with your doctor if you have high blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure, then you're at risk of suffering a heart attack, especially at the most crucial parts of Pacquiao vs Cotto. If you have high blood pressure, don't watch the fight live. Go sleep or do something else that won't pull you into the excitement of the fight. Just ask someone after the fight who won. The reason is that watching the fight live won't give you answers as to who will win in the end. This will cause you to feel too much excitement, and your heart might not be able to handle it.

2. Refrain from eating oily food and drinking too much alcohol - If you really want to see this historic fight, then it would be best for you to avoid eating any oily food and drinking alcohol. You never know when that last piece of cholesterol packed "lechon" or "adobo" would cause your heart to stop. Just eat fruits and drink juice or water while watching the fight.

3. Avoid shouting and any hyperactive movements - Although it might be fun to cheer for Pacquiao along with your friends while punching in the air, you might be straining yourself too much. Just relax and watch the fight and let your friends do the cheering for you.

4. If you feel too excited, stop watching the fight - The moment you feel your heart beating so strong and fast, stop watching. You won't be able to enjoy the fight if you suddenly die even before it ended.

5. Have medicine and contact number for emergencies ready - If you have high blood pressure and you just can't miss the fight for some reason, at least have your medicine ready and the contact number for emergencies and give it to someone. If anything ever happens, at least you will be taken cared of promptly and you will have a better chance of survival.

6. Let the group you're watching with know about your condition - Don't be shy and tell them about your heart condition. They will understand and they will most likely refrain from doing things that might excite you too much. Friends will always care about each other's health, even if it's during a Pacquiao fight.

7. Don't take things too seriously - If Pacquiao loses (or wins), or if someone in the group is a Cotto fan, don't take things seriously. There's no need to be worked up about the winner of the fight or if somebody doesn't agree with you. The result of the fight cannot be changed, and each person has his/her own choice of boxer, so just let it be. Being too serious is not good for the heart, especially during a very exciting fight such as Pacquiao vs Cotto.

8. Do some warm up exercise before the fight - Although you are not the one fighting Cotto in the ring, a little warm up exercise before watching the main event will help your blood circulate better. This will also make you feel more relaxed as you watch the fight, and hopefully you won't feel too much tension.

With these tips, I hope that the Pacquiao fans will have a safe and enjoyable time watching the main event! Have fun!
