MARVIN SONSONA GEARING UP FOR WAR By Oliver A. Gabito, DDM PhilBoxing.com Mon, 10 Aug 2009  Marvin Sonsona is preparing well for his upcoming fight with Puerto Rican Jose “Carita” Lopez (39-7-2) 32 KO’s, for the WBO World Super flyweight Championship. Carita Lopez who currently holds the world title will surely have his hands full when he defends it against Marvin “Marvelous” Sonsona (13-0) 12 KO’s, in a fight scheduled on September 4, 2009 at Casino Rama, Rama, Ontario, Canada. News is, the young prospect from General Santos who has been training at the Elorde Gym Gilmore, with chief trainer Jun Agrabio and the expertise of Dodong Donaire is doing very well. Team Sonsona has chosen Elorde gym with the indulgence of Cucuy Elorde, because of its much bigger ring which resembles the same size as the ring to be utilized during the fight. This will surely hasten up his skills and to familiarize his movements. Donaire Sr. and Sonsona's long time Trainer Agrabio, said that they are happy to see more improvements of Sonsona's skills and that the kid is showing good combination in his punches and skills in the ring, the two trainers are pushing their training limits with Sonsona to his peak form before they depart for Canada. Yesterday Sonsona sparred 12 solid rounds and looked very sharp, it followed with 3 sessions of mitts with Donaire Sr. and another 3 with head trainer Jun Agrabio to finish up the day. "We need the physical aspect and mental preparation that the kid needs to be able to win the world title fight," Donaire Sr. explained. "The team is very happy to see what Sonsona has been showing during the training." Manager Dr. Rajan Yraola said, "Marvin is about 80 percent prepared at this point however, we would like to be at 110 percent ready for Carita Lopez on the day of the fight. We plan to win the fight impressively to bring home the title, we want the Philippines to be proud of Marvin." "The team will fly to Ontario, Canada, on August 15, 2009 and will resume training in Toronto. We want to prepare the kid for acclimatization of the weather in Ontario which is a colder environment compared to here in the Philippines. We need to be there in Ontario, Canada at least two weeks before the fight. Some would say it’s a short period, but the team is making the most out of it and will be ready to fight Carita this coming September 4," explained Dr. Rajan Yraola.
