KARMAZIN SCORES A UD OVER BRONCO McCART By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Dec 2008 Inglewood, CA:- Turning 36 years old in the about two weeks, former IBF junior middleweight champion, Roman ?Made in Hell? Karmazin knows that tonight?s fight will have a huge impact on his last days as a fighter. The Russian fighter who now trains under Freddie Roach needs a victory over an equally aged fighter, 37 year old ex- WBO champion Bronco McCart to continue his career and solidify his place amongst the contenders in the middleweight division. Tonight, at the Hollywood Park Casino in this city near the old fabulous Forum where the LA Lakers used to play basketball, Karmazin did exactly that. He beat McKart via a wide unanimous decision. The judges? scores were 117-111,118-110, 119-109. The fight was a typical slugfest without a knockdown. Karmazin however appeared more aggressive and he threw more punches than McKart thus gaining the nod of the judges. Responding to the loud cheer of a few Russian supporters by the ringside who continuously yelled ?instructions? and encouragement in their native tongue, Karmazin at times pounded his opponent. However, he did not have enough to follow through in spite of occasionally hitting McKart with his solid left hook. Top photo: Karmazin (L) scores against McCart. Victorious Karmazin with promoter Kahren Harutyunyan. Freddie Roach who just returned last night from Gen Santos, Philippines after attending the 30th birthday of the Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao, worked the corner of Karmazin with a Russian interpreter. Surprisingly Roach did not show any sign of jet lag. He was vibrant and intense as he worked the corner not only for Karmazin but for two other fighters that trained in his gym and fought tonight. With the victory, Karmazin is now 37-3-1, 23KO?s while McKart fell to 51-9-1, 31KO. Karmazin won the IBF Intercontinental and the NABF Midlleweight crowns. The fight card is the third promotions for the year 2008 of Kahren Harutyunyan?s Art of Boxing Promotions. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ed de la Vega, DDS. |
