PLYOMETRICS TAKEN OUT OF PACQUIAO REGIMEN?
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 21 Nov 2008
LOS ANGELES--Finally, an explanation has been made as to why superstar Manny Pacquiao looked less stellar and sluggish during sparring last week at the Wild Card Gym.
According to a reliable source, Pacquiao has discontinued doing the plyometrics routine at the gym, following a thorough study conducted by Pacquiao's Filipino trainers Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.
"Kinuha na nila yung plyometrics, kasi nakita nila hindi nag fit dun sa system ni Manny. Naging mabagal sya, at ang sakit ng katawan nya, kaya hindi siya makapag jogging," said the source.
Pacquiao, the source added, immediately dropped the training regimen at once, and went back to his old, tested conditioning formula that has won for him several fights against several legendary fighters.
Trainer Freddie Roach supervised Pacquiao's training yesterday at the Wild Card, where the Filipino boxing icon looked spectacular hitting the mitts and doing the other routines inside the gym.
"After they dropped the plyometrics, Manny was back in his old deadly self. He sparred really well, and was back to being quick and explosive," a Wild Card Gym regular said yesterday.
Pacquiao's Filipino co-trainer and nutrinionist Nonoy Neri, meanwhile, has indicated that Pacquiao has been moving so well in the gym he won't hesitate to put his money on a Pacquiao win against De la Hoya.
This was echoed by conditioning coach Alex Ariza, who simply said "great" when asked about the level of the Filipino icon's conditioning during training yesterday at the Wild Card.
Meanwhile, a source said Pacquiao is set to depart for Las Vegas on December 1, and will be taking the custom-painted bus provided for him by Top Rank.
"May sariling bus ako, with my big photo on it, provided by Top Rank. Ang galing," Pacquiao told a select group of Filipino journalists yesterday.
