DOMINGO, VORAPIN VOW TO FIGHT TO THE FINISH By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 13 Sep 2008 WBO Oriental bantam king Michael Domingo of ALA Boxing Gym and WBO no. 3 bantam Ratanachai Sor Vorapin each vowed to give it their all when they cross paths on Sunday in the main event of the "Daytime Boxing" card at the New Cebu Coliseum. The two protagonists met for the first time today at the final press conference hosted by promoter Sammy Gello-ani at the Cebu Grand Hotel. "I will be there. I will be ready," was Vorapin's short statement to the media as translated by international matchmaker Ju Nicholas. Vorapin has reportedly trained hard for this fight in Bangkok under trainer Ronnie Caballero, who had to endure a dislocated shoulder bone after a punch mitt session with Vorapin. Domingo, who will be making the first defense of the title he won over Revo Rengkung in July, promised to give it his all in defending his title. "Gandahan nya laban nya. Kasi ensayado talaga ako," (He better do good in his game. I'm in tremendous shape), said the soft-spoken Domingo, who sparred with the likes of Malcolm Tunacao in preparation for Vorapin. Domingo is being lined up for a possible American stint if he beats Vorapin, especially if done in an impressive fashion. Also present at today's press conference were ex-WBA superbantam king Somsak Sitchatchawal and opponent Joel De la Cruz, lady fighter Usanakorn Kokietgym, Thai trainer Boonsong Prempree, Bangkok journalist Phisit Juajan and international matchmaker Ju Nicholas. Both Somsak and De la Cruz promised a fight for the fans, with the Thai star promising an exciting and explosive outing, while the Filipino hoping to win against a former world champ. Viva Sports' Ronnie Nathanielsz, who said that he has already given up on Manila boxing as Cebu is clearly now the mecca of Philippine boxing, was also present at the presser, as well as GAB commissioner Angel Bautista and ALA Promotions' Dennis Canete. The bout will be telecast "live" outside Cebu by Viva Prime on Destiny Cable starting 9AM on Sunday. A replay will be aired by Main Event next Sunday. Meanwhile, the fighters seeing action in the card will meet for the final time today for the official weigh-in set 9AM at the Cebu Grand Hotel. First bout starts 9AM on Sunday.
