JARO TARGETS 170 ROUNDS IN SPARRING FOR WBC FIGHT

Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight titlist Sonny Boy Jaro plans to log at least 170 rounds in sparring before flying to Mexico City via Los Angeles, California on September 14 for the 12-round World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight championship fight versus champion Edgar Sosa on September 27 in Arena Mexico, Mexico City.

This was revealed by Jaro's manager Aljoe Jaro who said that his 26-year-old ward had already sparred 96 rounds against former Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) 122-lb champion Edgar Gabejan and former PBF 115-lb titlist Jun Eraham at the Jaro Boxing Gym in Binangonan, Rizal.

Team Jaro will depart on September 14 on board PR 102 bound for Los Angeles. From the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), they will transfer to Mexican Airlines to Mexico City.

?We need to arrive in Mexico City earlier so that Sonny Boy can adjust to the jet lag and climate there,? Jaro said.

The boxer, accompanied by Jaro, jogs three times a week in the mountain in Antipolo City for seven to eight miles, said the manager.

Jaro (28-6, 17 KOs), who won the vacant OPBF title by split decision against Along Denoy in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on June 20, 2008, eats only three eggs a day, beef noodles and one cup of milk for breakfast and tinolang manok and sweet and sour fish for lunch at 10 o'clock in the morning, added the manager.

During his sparring, Aljoe Jaro said he prepares bulalo torta with ampalaya and beef steak for the boxer.

?So far, Sonny Boy does not have problem in his weight,? Aljoe Jaro said.

Sosa (32-5, 17 KOs) will be making his sixth defense of the crown he won by majority decision over the much-fancied former world champion Brian Villoria on April 14, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas.

The 29-year-old Mexican has defended the title against Luis Albero Lazarte (disqualification 10), Lorenzo Trejo (Technical Knock Out 9), Roberto Carlos Leyva (TKO 4), Jesus Iribre (Unanimous Decision 12), Takashi Kunishige (TKO 8).
