NIETES, BOOM-BOOM READY FOR NEXT FIGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY--World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes and WBO Intercontinental superbantam king Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista yesterday said they are both ready for their next opponents "whoever they may be."

Speaking to their fans through an interview during the "Pinoy Boxing" radio show over RMN-DYHP yesterday sponsored by Auto Solutions' Sunriser Motorcycles hosted by this writer and international boxing judge Edward Ligas, both Nietes and Bautista revealed that they would only spend about a week off, and then go back to the gym to keep themselves in shape.

Also guesting at yesterday's radio program were Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer whose ALA Promotions handles both Nietes and Bautista, as well as the iconic Ronnie Nathanielsz who was a fan favorite during the radio show.

Also present were WBO Youth champion Jason Pagara and trainers Edito and Edmund Villamor.

Aldeguer, whose son Michael manages both Bautista and Nietes, revealed that there has been a standing offer for the WBO champ Nietes to unify the title with undefeated IBO king Nkosinathi Joyi of South Africa.

"Right after the win over Castro, I received a revised offer for Nietes to fight the IBO champ. The purse offer was also increased," said Aldeguer.

The well-respected boxing patron, however, indicated that they still have to honor Nietes' WBO mandatory obligation possibly against Daniel Reyes of Colombia, before any unification duel can be entertained.

Nietes is set to depart today for his hometown in Murcia, Bacolod City where relatives, friends and local leaders are expected to give him a warm welcome following his successful title defense.

Bautista, meanwhile, left for Bohol this morning, will stay in Mayor Dan Neri Lim's Tagbilaran City before proceeding to his beloved hometown of Candijay, Bohol.

"I will fight whoever my manager tells me to fight. I will always prepare myself," said the 22-year-old Bautista, who is promoted by Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

There have been plans to bring Bautista to the United States as an undercard to the titanic December 6 showdown between Oscar De la Hoya and Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand, although Aldeguer stressed nothing definite has yet been agreed upon.
