PACQUIAO RECEIVES WBC MINI-BELT FROM SULAIMAN FOR OLYMPICS By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Wed, 30 Jul 2008  LOS ANGELES, California ? in recognition of his being an ?outstanding? world boxing champion, World Boxing Council (WBC) president Jose Sulaiman Chagnon has turned over the WBC mini-belt and a note to WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao through ring physician Dr. Allan L. Recto to be used during the opening parade of the Beijing World Olympic Games which will blast off on August 8 to 24. ?I would like to congratulate you on behalf of all the members of our WBC for the great distinction of being awarded the honor to lead the Olympic delegation of your country, the beautiful Philippines, in the opening ceremony in China,? Sulaiman wrote in a letter dated July 10, 2008. ?I am sending to you the WBC mini belt, which you are very familiar with, as you may want to wear it on your arm, as other champions has done in the past. Send you this letter with our mutual friend Dr. Allan Recto,? concluded the 77-year-old Sulaiman. ?Please accept my sincerest regards.? Pacquiao has been chosen by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) as flag-bearer in the biggest sports competitions in the world held in the summer every four years. For his part, Recto, who left for the Philippines on July 27, said he was honored that Sulaiman had chosen him as bridge to deliver the precious metal through North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion. Pacquiao, who arrived here on July 28, was scheduled to fly to Las Vegas July 29 afternoon together with his lawyer Jeng Gacal and trustee Michael Koncz to finalize the deal with Top Rank Promotion for his next fight probably against Oscar De La Hoya or Humberto Soto and Edwin Valero before the year ends at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. There are also attempts to bring Pacquiao?s next fight in Vancouver, Canada. Pacquiao?s handlers are hoping they could get a ?reasonable? deal in his next fight which will be co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions owned by De La Hoya.
