THIEVES STRIKE IN PALAZZO By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Tue, 29 Jul 2008 LOS ANGELES, California ? A day after World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao left for the Philippines after wresting the crown from David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 28, a burglary occurred at The Palazzo East in La Brea East where Pacquiao occupies a unit. Luckily, his unit in the penthouse floor was spared. Benjamin Egge, The Palazzo East general manager, reported to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) that ?on July 3, early in the morning, four cars were burglarized in building four.? Egge alleged that electronic and personal items were taken from the vehicles. The LAPD Wilshire Division has been conducting an investigation, Egged said in his note to apartment residents. ?We are cooperating fully with them and encourage all residents who may have any information about this incident to contact Officer Perry Jones of the LAPD Wilshire Division, 213-922-8271,? Egge wrote. Boxing trainer Danny Halibas, a mainstay Pacquiao?s apartment, said the burglary happened in the parking area and the entire building remains secured as ever. ?It was an isolated case,? he said. Halibas said he considers security in the entire Palazzo building is still very much reliable and tight despite what happened. Nothing to worry about.? Egge shared to residents some crime prevention and safety tips from law enforcement officials in a hope that ?we can all do our part to keep our community safe. Egge asked the residents to do the following: -Get to know your neighbors and watch out for each other. If you see or hear something unusual or witness illegal activity, notify the police. If there is an emergency, call 9-1-1. Call the police first and then contact our management office. -Always lock your apartment, not only when you leave, but also when you are inside your apartment. -Lock your card doors and remember to remove anything valuable. -Be aware if your surroundings and be alert for strangers or suspicious activity. -Consider contacting your insurance agent about coverage for your personal belongings. The Park La Brea Management said the entire 160+ acre complex has been meticulously renovated, to surpass even its original glory. The apartment is also equipped with broadband cable television, telephone and Internet connections, gourmet kitchens with granite countertops, and beautifully restored interiors available. It is considered as one of the most modern and safest complexes in Los Angeles. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Alex P. Vidal. |
