CONCEPCION, MELO, SHAYLOR IN PUBLIC WORKOUT TODAY PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Jul 2008 CEBU CITY -- Instead of one, two male conquerors and a lady warrior are slated to show their wares at the ALA Gym in Banilad Town Center (BTC) today. World Boxing Association (WBA) No. 6 super flyweight contender Rafael ?Little Bull? Concepcion, WBA Intercontinental challenger Carlos ?Shanghai? Melo, and lady boxer Brenda Shaylor of Las Vegas, Nevada will hold a public workout and together open a chance for Cebuano boxing enthusiasts to meet them in person before their fight this week at the New Cebu Coliseum. Concepcion arrived safely yesterday morning after missing his flight from Los Angeles, and proceeded to sweat out his jet lag at ALA Gym in BTC. He flew in accompanied by renowed trainers Pedro Roca and Hector Romero. Manager Damon de Berry of Optimum Sports Agency came ahead of the team on July 18 to ensure that facilities for the contender?s training were in order. Shanghai Melo arrived as scheduled on Sunday (July 20) accompanied by trainer Francisco Berrio Arroyo. Melo will challenge reinging WBA Intercontinenal champion Milan ?Milenyo? Melindo for the regional title. American lady boxer Brenda Shaylor, the crowd-drawing amazon who will exchange mitts with Filipina pugilist Reynalyn Consejo Jacob of Bacolod City, joins the public show with manager Tony Martin. Both also arrived yesterday from Nevada via Manila. Martin is also the favorite would cutter for ALA Gym team in its past fights here and abroad. ?Laban Na Banal: Panahon Na!? the promotional vehicle of Concepcion, Melo, and Shaylor, will rock Cebu boxing fans on July 26. Concepcion will contend against WBA No. 3-ranked super flyweight pugilist AJ ?Bazooka? Banal for the world title. The public workout starts at 5:00 in the afternoon. The contest is produced by ALA Promotions in association with ABS-CBN Sports, Golden Boy Promotions, and the Cebu City Government.
