Mark Jason Melligen of the ALA Boxing Gym retained his Philippine junior welterweight crown with an impressive first-round knockout over Cagayan's Cris Alag on Saturday night at the West Negros Gym in Bacolod City.
Melligen was making the second defense of the title he won with a seventh-round knockout over Christopher Saluday last year. The victory also moved Melligen closer to a possible crack at the prestigious WBO regional title.
In the undercard, Gil Melligen, the younger brother, took a second-round knockout victory over Rommel Libradilla, while Leo Torres prevailed on a split decision over Jake Servania.
Saddam Barambangan stopped Keeward Minoza; Merlito Sabillo TKO'd Edcel Tunacao; Reman Salim and Ruben Santillanosa had a draw; Racem Laud decisioned Aljerd Tunacao; Leonard Guardiano decisioned Eman Labanza; while Nelson Arellano decisioned Loloy De la Pena.
