NABF King Concepcion Revs Up for Carrera By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Sun, 13 Jul 2008 LAS VEGAS, Nevada ? North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion is in the final stage of his training at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, California for the July 26 10-round non-title fight against Adam ?El Torito? Carrera. Concepcion (25-1, 14 KOs) will face Carrera (19-3, 8 KOs) in the opening bout of the world welterweight championship collision between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito in a pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand, here. World Boxing Council (WBC) president Jose Sulaiman earlier told Concepcion?s adviser Dr. Allan L. Recto in a meeting in Mexico that ?I promised you that I?m going to help Concepcion fight for world championship? if Concepcion will continue to rack up impressive wins. ?As of now he is still training in Los Angeles and is being assisted by Fred Roach and Alex Ariza,? reported Recto, who will act as Concepcion?s cut man. Concepcion, 20, managed by Aljoe Jaro of Jaro Boxing Stable in Binangonan, Rizal, Philippines, has not lost since yielding a 10-round majority decision to Mark Sales on March 5, 2005 in Taguig, Metro Manila. Jaro admitted he is not rushing Concepcion to gun for the world championship ?since he is still young.? But he said if the opportunity to fight for world title will come, his ward is always ready. Jaro will arrive in Los Angeles on July 19 and will join the Team Concepcion to this city on July 24. WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao, who is supporting Concepcion?s stay in the United States, is also expected to hit this city on July 24 to be at ringside. He will also reportedly sit down with Top Rank promoter to sign the papers for his November 15 title defense either against Edwin Valero or Humberto Soto, who holds a knockout win against Pacquiao?s brother, Bobby. In his last fight on April 26, this year, Concepcion knocked out Torrence ?Dynamite? Daniels (10-4, 4 KOs) in Plaza de Toros Juriquilla, Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico in defense of his NABF title.
