Former World Champion Marcus Browne Returns to the Ring Against Brandon Glanton in Nigeria on Independence Day PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Sep 2025 ![]() LAGOS, NIGERIA (September 22, 2025) — Former WBC Light Heavyweight World Champion and U.S. Olympian Marcus Browne (25-3, 16 KOs) will return to the ring for a high-stakes 10-round cruiserweight clash against power-punching, and WBC #8 Ranked contender, Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton (20-3, 17 KOs) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria. The bout, taking place on Nigerian Independence Day at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, headlines a special event titled “Chaos in the Ring”, presented by Balmoral Group Promotions in association with Amir Khan Promotions. The event will stream live globally on DAZN. This marks Browne’s first fight since his 2023 cruiserweight debut, where he earned a dominant unanimous decision win over Adrian Taylor. The victory catapulted him into the top 15 rankings across all major sanctioning bodies, but two years of promotional hurdles and personal adversity have kept the former champion sidelined—until now. Browne, who defeated Badou Jack for the WBC Light Heavyweight title in 2019, is determined to remind the world of his elite pedigree. “It’s been frustrating beyond belief, but I never stopped training, never stopped preparing mentally and I believe in myself.” stated Browne. “This fight is about redemption—about reclaiming what I know I’m capable of. I’m coming back sharper, stronger, and more focused than ever.” Browne and Glanton share a complex and heated history, having once sparred many times during their light heavyweight days. “Brandon and I go way back,” added Browne. “We used to spar often, and let’s be real—I got the better of those sessions. There’s definitely bad blood, but for me, it’s not emotional. It’s about business and proving a point. I know who I am, and I’m going to remind him and everybody else of who I was and still am.” With a powerhouse management team behind him for the past 18 months, Browne is finally locked in for his next fight—and now that the wheels are in motion, the sky’s the limit. “I owe a huge thank you to my team, Zach Margules and Chris Gilmore Jr. from Fide Management. They stuck by me through the quiet years when the phone wasn’t ringing. They believed in me when no one else would. Zach Margules, co-manager of Marcus Browne, emphasized “Marcus is extremely motivated for this fight to show the world he still belongs at the top….and this time at the top of the Cruiserweight Division fighting the biggest names as he has before. We are incredibly grateful to Amir Khan and Eazy Adamu of Amir Khan Promotions and Balmoral Group Promotions for stepping up to the plate to make this fight”. Chris Gilmore Jr., also of Fide Management, added, “Resilience and the ability to learn from his mistakes and adapt to be a better person comes to mind when I think of Marcus. Being friends and now business partners for years I’ve seen the stages and growth not only as a fighter but a man as well to take this to the next level” A victory over Glanton catapults Browne back into the heart of the cruiserweight division—and puts him firmly on the path toward another shot at world title glory. “This win puts me right back in the conversation,” Browne concluded. “A win here, in front of a global audience, shows the world I’m not done. I’m still a world-level fighter, and this is just the beginning of my second chapter.” “Chaos in the Ring” is expected to be one of the most electrifying events on the African boxing calendar, celebrating Nigerian independence with a headline bout that promises fireworks between two fierce and familiar rivals. ![]() |
