Triumphant Return: Jerwin Ancajas Defeats Casero in Los Angeles, Good Job! By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Aug 2025 ![]() Our Filipino former world champion Jerwin Ancajas returned to the U.S. after a two-year absence, and his reappearance in the ring was excellent!! Yes, Jerwin celebrated his successful return with a well-deserved majority decision victory over Uruguayan Rubén Darío Casero (13-5, 5 KOs). The fight, scheduled for 8 rounds at super bantamweight, took place on Saturday, August 2, at the Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, and fans loved having Jerwin on the card. Ancajas, known for his ring skills, relied mainly on his jabs and counterattacks to secure the points victory. Two judges scored the fight 80-72, all rounds for the Pinoy, while the third judge inexplicably scored the eight-round super bantamweight bout a 76-76 draw. Very strange that last scoring. Anyways, the majority decision was enough to give Ancajas the win, improving his record to 37-4-2 with 24 knockouts. According to the popular and experienced Sean Gibbons, president of MP Promotions, this victory helps Ancajas in his goal to fight for world title fight. Let’s hope so! And that’s because at 33, Ancajas remains a formidable boxer with fans loving him, and his return to fighting in the United States was a resounding success. Ancajas last fought in the U.S. in June of 2023, when he won by TKO in five over Colombian Wilner Soto (24-19, 13 KOs) in Minneapolis in a non-title fight. His return to America after two years of fighting in venues in Japan and the Philippines was a success, and now fans all over are eager to see what's next for the popular “Pretty Boy” Jerwin Ancajas. ABOUT JERWIN’S TRAINING For this rumble against his Uruguay opponent, Jerwin trained at the plush and comfy Sean Gibbons’ Knucklehead Gym in Las Vegas. Jerwin sweated there with his trusted long-time coach Joven Jimenez, and with assistant coach Jonás “Zorro” Sultán. I know this because during my recent trip to Las Vegas I visited Sean Gibbons’ Knuckleheads gym and saw Jerwin training there, looking strong and in a very good mood. ![]() Jerwin Ancaja and his coach Joven Jimenez training in Las Vegas on July 14, 2025. During those days of July, there was a lot of excitement in Sean’s gym because of The Pac-Man’s fight. But not only Manny Pacquiao and Jerwin Ancajas were training at Knuckleheads. I also saw Eumir Marcial, Mark Magsayo, Josaphat Navarro, and the friendly and cool Vincent "Asero" Astrolabio. Best of luck to all! Hermano,s we can all feel good about Jerwin’s win. He still has a lot of excitement to give to his many fans. Congratulations Jerwin! The author is boxing reporter Carlos Costa of Cebu.
