Jack Catterall Defeats Harlem Eubank Via Technical Decision After Fight Stopped Early Due to Cuts

PhilBoxing.com

Jack Catterall secured a decisive victory over Harlem Eubank Saturday night (Early Sunday in Manila) at Manchester's AO Arena in Manchester, England with their highly anticipated welterweight clash ending prematurely at the start of the 7th round due to cuts sustained by both fighters. The fight, which was for the WBA International and IBF Intercontinental Welterweight Titles, saw Catterall in control and was leading on all scorecards, 69-65, 69-66 and 69-66 before the stoppage.

"The Bomber" Catterall (now 31-2-0, 13 KOs) showcased his sharp boxing skills and consistent pressure against Eubank, who struggled to find his rhythm and was consistently on the receiving end of clean punches.

In the sixth, the fight got messy after Catterall and Eubank tangled together and hit the floor and they were warned by Referee Bob Williams for their conduct. In the ensuing action as the pair came together in a clinch, both men clashed heads. A nasty gash opened up above Catterall’s right eye and Eubank’s left.

Catterall had sustained severe damage above his eye. The ringside doctor allowed the fight to continue after assessing the severity of the cut, but as both fighters come out to battle it out for round 7, Referee Bob Williams decided to stop the contest.

For Harlem Eubank (now 21-1-0, 9 KOs), this marks his first professional defeat and a significant setback in his career trajectory. He expressed disappointment in the outcome and asked for an immediate rematch.

"There has to be a rematch," Eubank said. "I was coming into the fight beautifully. We need to run it back right now. The decision went against me because they cut the fight short."

This victory positions Jack Catterall for bigger opportunities in the welterweight division, potentially setting him up for another world title shot or a major domestic showdown. His performance underscored his class and ability to dismantle opponents, even those as highly regarded as Eubank. The Manchester crowd, though witnessing an early stoppage, saw a dominant display from their local hero.
