Hitchins Dominates, Stops Kambosos Jr. in Eighth Round to Retain IBF Super Lightweight Title

PhilBoxing.com

Richardson Hitchins delivered a masterful boxing performance at the Madison Square Garden Theater, stopping George Kambosos Jr. in the eighth round to capture the IBF Super Lightweight title Saturday night (Sunday in Manila). The Brooklyn native showcased a dazzling display of skill that left Kambosos looking like an overwhelmed upstart.

From the opening bell, Hitchins asserted his dominance with crisp jabs, accurate punches, precise counters, and deft footwork, controlling the tempo and distance of the fight. His stinging jabs were consistently on target, turning Kambosos's face red as early as the first round. A visible lump under Kambosos's right eye was already apparent by the second round, testament to Hitchins's pinpoint accuracy.

As the fight progressed, Hitchins's boxing masterclass continued. In the fifth round, he skillfully pinned Kambosos in the blue corner, unleashing a barrage of lefts and rights that had the Australian in trouble.

Hitchins pushed the pedal in the eighth round, sensing Kambosos was "ripe for the picking." Midway through the third minute of the round, Hitchins connected with a sharp right hand, followed by a wicked left to the liver that sent Kambosos to the canvas, grimacing in pain. Kambosos was down and out, prompting the stoppage at 2:33 of the eighth round.

So dominant was Hitchins he connected 205 out of 398 punches to Kambosos' 57 out of 384 an incredible 52% connect rate for the New Yorker.

With this impressive TKO victory, Richardson Hitchins improves his undefeated record to 20-0 with 8 knockouts. George Kambosos Jr. drops to 22-4-0, 10 KOs. The emphatic win solidifies Hitchins' standing in the super lightweight division and marks a significant moment in his burgeoning career.
