Golden Boy’s WBA #1 contender John “Scrappy“ Ramirez joins preliminary card

MVP’s 2x US national amateur champion Alexander “Alley Cat” Gueche joins the preliminary card vs. American powerhouse and 4x US national amateur champion Vincent “The Beast” Avina

ANAHEIM, CA – June 12, 2025 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and Golden Boy Promotions today announced the remaining preliminary card bouts for the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. event, airing live globally on DAZN pay-per-view on Saturday, June 28, from Honda Center in Anaheim, California, with Golden Boy Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter. The event is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, also sponsored by Event Ticket Center and Fansly. Joining the preliminary card is Golden Boy’s #1 WBA contender, WBA North America continental champion, and East Los Angeles native John “Scrappy“ Ramirez (14-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round super flyweight bout. Also joining the preliminary card is Golden Boy’s undefeated rising star Victor Morales (20-0-1, 10 KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight bout vs. former WBA super featherweight world champion Renee Alvarado (34-16, 22 KOs). MVP’s 2x US national amateur champion and rising bantamweight star Alexander “Alley Cat” Gueche (7-0, 5 KOs) also joins the preliminary card vs. American powerhouse and 4x US national amateur champion Vincent “The Beast” Avina (8-1-1, 7 KOs) in an 8-round bantamweight bout at 118 lbs. The preliminary card will also feature Golden Boy’s undefeated former Team USA member Joel Iriarte (7-0, 7 KOs) vs. Tanzanian prospect Yusuph “Mr. Mwanza” Metu (11-2, 8 KOs) in a 8-round welterweight bout. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.

Golden Boy’s WBA #1 contender and North America continental champion and East Los Angeles native John “Scrappy“ Ramirez (14-1, 9 KOs) will join the preliminary card in a 10-round super flyweight bout at 115lbs. A talented amateur, Ramirez became a two-time Sugar Bert national champion and took home the Regional Golden Gloves title and Southern California State title in 2018. Ramirez, known for his crowd-pleasing style and relentless work ethic, trains out of Brickhouse Boxing Club in Los Angeles under the guidance of renowned coach Julian Chua and alongside Golden Boy’s Mexican WBO & WBA unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto ”Zurdo” Ramirez. Most recently, in December 2024, he secured a dominant unanimous decision win over Ephraim Bui. His opponent on Saturday, June 28, will be announced at a later date.

Hailing from Vancouver, Washington, Golden Boy’s undefeated rising star Victor “El Tornado” Morales Jr. (20-0-1, 10 KOs) joins the preliminary card following a dominant TKO win over Jose Ivan Guardado Ortiz in December 2024. With impressive knockout power and an unblemished record, Morales Jr. continues to solidify his status as one of the division’s most dangerous and promising contenders. Managua, Nicaragua’s former WBA super featherweight world champion, Renee Alvarado (34-16, 22 KOs), will look to give Morales Jr. his first loss in their 10-round super featherweight bout at 130lbs on June 28th as he aims to showcase his talent on the global stage. Alvarado last stepped into the ring in April 2025 when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Geo Lopez.

MVP’s 2x US national amateur champion and rising bantamweight star Alexander “Alley Cat” Gueche (7-0, 5 KOs) also joins the preliminary card to face American powerhouse and 4x US national amateur champion Vincent “The Beast” Avina (8-1-1, 7 KOs) in an 8-round bantamweight bout at 118lbs. Fighting out of Long Beach, California, by way of Harbor City, California, Gueche most recently extended his undefeated streak with a dominant stoppage of veteran Lito Dante in January 2025. With his ability to combine pinpoint precision and knockout power, Gueche has solidified his place as one of boxing’s most exciting young talents. Avina, boasting an 87.5% knockout rate, will look to derail Gueche’s momentum and further establish himself as a top-tier prospect.

Golden Boy’s undefeated former Team USA member, Joel Iriarte (7-0, 7 KOs), returns to action on the preliminary card in a 8-round 147lb welterweight showdown against Tanzanian prospect Yusuph “Mr. Mwanza” Metu (11-2, 8 KOs). Hailing from Bakersfield, California, Iriarte was one of the most decorated amateurs in the country, earning an astonishing 17 national championship titles and three gold medals. Since turning professional in March 2024, he has made a dominant impression, finishing every opponent in two rounds or less. His most recent outing against Marcos Leonardo Jimenez, his first time fighting eight rounds, earned him the WBA continental gold welterweight title. Facing him from Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, by way of Mwanza, Tanzania, will be Metu, who enters his second fight ever in the United States.

“MVP is proud to deliver one of the most stacked preliminary cards in recent memory, featuring a mix of rising stars, world-class talent, and champion pedigree,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “From top-tier prospects like MVP’s own Alexander Gueche, and Joel Iriarte to proven names like #1 WBA contender John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez and Victor Morales Jr., Saturday, June 28 promises nonstop action from the opening bell. With Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. headlining, this event is a true global boxing spectacle, and it all starts with a world-class undercard.”

“We’re proud to have partnered with MVP to put together a stellar preliminary undercard that lives up to the elite-level pay-per-view,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “This lineup is stacked with some of the sport’s hottest rising stars—fighters who I believe have what it takes to become the next big names in boxing. From start to finish, fans are in for an unforgettable night.”

Topping MVP’s pay-per-view card on DAZN will be MVP’s international superstar Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) vs. Mexico’s former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) as they face off in a 10-round blockbuster main event at 200lbs on Saturday, June 28. The co-main event will feature a 12-round unified cruiserweight championship bout between Golden Boy’s Mexican WBO & WBA unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) vs. Cuba’s former IBF & WBA cruiserweight world champion and WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós (27-2, 25 KOs). Opening the Paul vs. Chavez Jr. pay-per-view main card is undefeated WBA International lightweight champion Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs), who will face former IBF super featherweight world champion Tevin Farmer (33-8-1, 8 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight battle at 135 lbs. The main card will also feature MVP’s latest signee, undefeated powerhouse Avious “Tha Underdog” Griffin (17-0, 16 KOs), who will make his promotional debut against New Jersey’s welterweight standout Julian “Hammer Hands” Rodriguez (23-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight showdown at 147 lbs. Also joining the main card will be a 10-round welterweight battle at 147 lbs between undefeated Mexican welterweight standout Raul “Cugar” Curiel (15-0-1, 13 KOs) and Uruguay’s fellow undefeated sensation Victor Ezequiel “Latigo” Rodriguez (16-0-1, 9 KOs).

Headlining the preliminary card is former UFC bantamweight champion and Boxrec’s #2 greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time, Holly “The Preacher's Daughter” Holm (33-2-3, 9 KOs) as she makes her long-awaited return to the ring to face Mexico’s undefeated rising prospect Yolanda “Pitayita” Vega (10-0, 1 KO) in a 10-round lightweight bout contested over two-minute rounds. Holm and Vega each signed with MVP in May 2025 ahead of their fight announcement and faceoff at the Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. preview press conference. Also on the preliminary card is MVP’s 20-year-old WBC Youth light flyweight world champion Naomy Valle (14-0, 9 KOs) vs. Mexico’s 20-year-old Ashley Felix (7-3, 1 KO). The pair will make a statement for equality in women’s boxing by fighting six, three-minute rounds in a light flyweight bout at 108 lbs.
