PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 May 2025

May 19, 2025 – The WBC has approved a final elimination bout between WBC #2-ranked light flyweight Erick Badillo (17-0, 8 KOs) of Mexico, and WBC #8-ranked Gerardo Zapata (15-2-1, 5 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua.
The 12-round battle will be held on Friday, July 11, and presented worldwide by PROBOX TV.
The winner of the bout will be officially designated as next in line to face the winner of WBC World Light Flyweight Champion Panya “Petchmanee CP Freshmart” Pradabsri (44-2, 27 KOs) of Bangkok, Thailand’s upcoming match against WBC #37-ranked Christian Balunan (12-0, 7 KOs) of Consolacion, Cebu, Philippines, in Japan.
“Every fighter dreams of winning the title and wearing the WBC’s green belt around their waist,” said Badillo. “My time has finally come, and I am very happy and thankful to be here. I plan to put on a show for the fans on ProBox TV.”
“Thank you to my promoters, All Star Promotions, for this great chance,” said Zapata. “I will not let this opportunity they have given me go to waste. I will be victorious on July 11.”
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, who represents Badillo, says he’s happy his fighter will be receiving this high-profile opportunity.
“I want to say thank you to Garry Jonas of ProBox TV, who has demonstrated his willingness to feature every division in boxing and given exposure to so many young fighters who have gone on to become well known as boxing’s next generation of champions and stars."
