Fundora Retains Undisputed Flyweight Titles; Perez Shocks Conwell in Oceanside

PhilBoxing.com

Gabriela "Sweet Poison" Fundora put on a dominant display at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, successfully defending her IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine flyweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over a game Marilyn Badillo. The judges scored the contest overwhelmingly in Fundora's favor (100-90, 100-90, 99-91), highlighting her significant height and reach advantage, coupled with superior activity and overall skill. Despite a valiant effort from the previously undefeated Badillo, the Mexican challenger was unable to consistently trouble the taller and more experienced champion.

In the co-main event, however, the night took a dramatic turn as Mexico's veteran Jorge Garcia Perez (33-4, 26 KOs) delivered a stunning upset, handing previously undefeated Charles Conwell (21-1, 16 KOs) his first professional loss via a split decision (95-94, 94-95, 96-93) in a captivating 12-round super welterweight battle. Conwell, the highly touted prospect from Cleveland, Ohio, entered the ring as a significant favorite, but Garcia Perez, a former world title challenger with a wealth of experience, proved to be a tough and determined opponent. The fight was a closely contested affair, with Garcia Perez's grit, ring generalship, and impactful shots ultimately swaying two of the judges in his favor.

The DAZN opener also featured an upset as Marcos Jimenez defeated previously undefeated Joel Iriarte via a split decision to claim the WBA Continental North American welterweight title. The scores were 77-75, 75-77, and 77-75 in favor of the Puerto Rican veteran.

In other main card action, Tristan Kalkreuth showcased his power with a decisive seventh-round knockout victory over Felix Valera in their heavyweight clash.

The undercard, streamed earlier on Golden Boy's YouTube channel, provided further excitement:

In a cruiserweight battle, Oleksandr Gvozdyk secured a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Hollaway.

Brandon Douglas handed Jorge Chavez his first professional defeat with a hard-fought decision win in their super bantamweight contest.
Heavyweight debutant Joshua Edwards made a statement with a first-round knockout of Larry Gonzalez.

Marc Misiura earned a majority decision victory over Samuel Torres in their super welterweight matchup.

Dalis Kaleiopu remained undefeated with a unanimous decision win over Jesus Ramon Perez in their lightweight fight.

The Golden Boy Promotions card in Oceanside delivered a night of thrilling action, capped by Fundora's successful title defense and the stunning upset victory of Jorge Garcia Perez over the previously unbeaten Charles Conwell.
