IIEE-PSME Quezon City drub Mindoro Tamaraws and Zamboanga Sultans in PCAP

The Institute of Electrical Engineers (IIEE) and the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers team of Quezon City (QC) Simba’s Tribe emerged as winner in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) season 5 All-Filipino Cup drubbing the Mindoro Tamaraws 16-5 and edging the Zamboanga Sultans 11.5-9.5.

All North Division teams had won over their South Division counterparts except a loss by Cagayan to Bacolod. San Juan Predator leads all team with their clean slate of 9-0 going to the next round which will be played after the Holy week break thru chess.com platform.

The QC team was led by NM Marc Christian Nazario and Norman Madriaga with their 4 victories on all games they played. All other players contributed to the double victory last April 5, 2025 which include lady board Manilyn Cabungcag, AIM Francis Talaboc, Kristian Paulo Cristobal, CM Joseph Navarro and team owner-senior board Danilo Ponay. Other members of the IIEE-PSME QC Simba’s tribe are Team captain and coach Michaela Concio, IIEE former National President Allan Anthony Alvarez, PSME former National President Roger Reyes, assistant managers Dennis Alain Lladoc and Samivin delos Santos.
Other players , IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad, NM Jojo Aquino, NM Gerald Ferriol, NM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., NM Robert Arellano,NM Romeo Alcodia, NM Nicomedes Alisangco, NM Alvin Alcala, CM Romy Fagon, Freddie Talaboc, Justine Corpin, Patrick Erle Florendo, CM Romy Fagon, Jellie Magro and Elizsa Gayle Cafirma.

QC is also currently pursuing GM Rogelio 'Joey' Antonio Jr. to be part of the team as senior and home grown player. GM Antonio together with IM Bagamasbad is currently in Australia to play for 3 tournaments while NM Bernardino will be representing QC in Thailand tournament.

Meanwhile in the Business Professional Basketball League (BPBL), the IIEE Titan teams will try to duplicate their season 7 Championship in the Corporate division. The Titans are led by head coach Manuel Mercado Jr, assistant coaches MJ Felices and Raffy Allas, team managers Albert Espenida, Paolo Tolentino and Martoy Caceda and IIEE National overseer Allan Alvarez and IIEE Golden Sports Chairman Menandro “Andy” Lim. The IIEE are composed of its electrical members and will compete with Welink All Customs Broker, Ourx pharma with lawyers players, Masterclass PH-Team of sportscasters, Banzai - Atenean Professionals and Sgvean with certified public accountant players. Last year, the IIEE beat the Cocolife in the championship during their maiden appearance in this professional league. It will be the 2nd time that IIEE will compete with other professionals.

IIEE is set to stage the 3x3 basketball during their 50th Golden Anniversary in Koten Pasay City on September 13, 2025. Their will be 11 teams that will compete for the 3x3 IIEE National Basketball coming from different region including Foreign. The other local representation will be coming from Metro Manila region, Southern Luxon, Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao and Western Mindanao. A 5x5 exhibition game will also be set between the IIEE Titan led by Khen Osicos and the BPBL selection to be led by Mr. Long Bomb Harmz Hui.-Marlon Bernardino-
