NM Bernardino to join 22nd BCC Open 2025 in Thailand

MANILA – National Master and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. is set to compete in the 22nd BCC (Bangkok Chess Club) Open 2025 scheduled from April 13 to 21.
The competition, which will be held at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, features Open and Challenger divisions.
"I am looking forward to playing in Thailand and hopefully, get good results," said the 47-year-old Bernardino, a certified online Arena Grandmaster in an interview on Saturday.
"I will do my very best for the flag and country," added Bernardino, a veteran sports writer/columnist and radio commentator.
During the 16th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2024 Chess Championship held from December 23-27, 2024 at the UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College (Georgetown) in Penang, Malaysia, he finished seventh.
Bernardino is the coach and delegation head of the PH chess team who won 2 golds and 1 bronze medals in the 32nd FIDE World Senior Chess Championship which was held at the Hotel Baleira, Porto Santo Island, Portugal from Nov. 16-29, 2024.
It shall be recalled that Bernardino achieved another remarkable victory by winning first place in the 3rd Laos International Chess Open 2024 held at the 2nd floor Parkson@ Naga Mall in Vientiane, Laos from September 1 to 6, 2024.
Among those who are supporting his chess campaign are ALC Group of Companies Chairman and CEO Dominic Edgard Cabangon, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) chairman and CEO Alejandro “Al” Tengco, Mayor Joy Belmonte, Mayor Jon Jon Ferrer and Mr. Jessie Villasin.
Others Filipino woodpushers playing in the 22nd BCC (Bangkok Chess Club) Open 2025 are GM Darwin Laylo, IM Paulo Bersamina, IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Angelo Young, FM Christian Gian Karlo Arca and FM Jimson Bitoon.-MB-
