Melvin Jerusalem Ready to Defend WBC Title Against Yudai Shigeoka in Anticipated Rematch
PhilBoxing.com Tue, 11 Mar 2025

Reigning WBC World Minimumweight Champion Melvin Jerusalem (23-3) is primed for his upcoming title defense against former champion Yudai Shigeoka (9-1) on March 30, 2025, in Nagoya, Japan. After capturing the WBC title from Shigeoka on March 31, 2024, Jerusalem successfully defended his belt against unbeaten Mexican contender Luis Castillo in Manila.
As he prepares for this highly anticipated rematch, Jerusalem expressed confidence in his condition: “I am in 95 percent condition now and I have 20 days to go. If I did good in the last fight, I will do a lot better in the rematch. I know he wants revenge and will change his game plan, but I will adjust to every style.”
The champion emphasized the significance of the WBC title, stating, “The WBC is my dream belt, and no one is taking this away from me. I'm training hard with my trainer, Coach Michael Domingo, and we are really prepared. I’ve sparred with good southpaw partners here in Cebu, completing over 100 rounds.”
Jerusalem also thanked his support team and fans: “I want to thank my team Zip Sanman, my manager Nobuyuki, Mhavic Matsuura, and promoter Jim Claude Manangquil, as well as my family. I urge all my fans to support me on March 30; this fight is for you and for the Philippines.”
