Belgrade, Serbia – President of International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev met today with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, who received Serbian women’s national boxing team in his residence. The high-level reception took place in Belgrade, one day before the opening ceremony of IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Niš, scheduled to run from March 8 to 16.
President Vučić described the event as an opportunity for Serbia to claim its first-ever Women’s World Championship medal: ‘Serbian female boxers have never won a medal at the IBA World Championships, and I think it’s time for you to make us proud.’
President also voiced strong support for the sport of boxing in Serbia, reaffirming his commitment to continue developing the National Boxing Center with the help of international partners. He wished the Serbian female boxers the fulfillment of their greatest dreams in Niš and mentioned that he was the biggest fan of Serbian national boxing team supporting them throughout the event.
President Kremlev underscored Serbia’s importance in the boxing, stating, ‘Today, Serbia becomes the capital of international boxing. I want to thank President Vučić and the Serbian people for their unwavering support for our beloved sport.’
IBA President expressed his confidence in the Serbian boxers’ abilities and wishing them success in the upcoming competition.
‘I know Serbia has excellent female boxers,’ he said, adding that he looks forward to an exciting World Championships and hopes the best athletes will triumph.
Sara Ćirković, a 20-year-old who is the reigning European champion, vowed that she and her teammates would do everything possible to secure a historic medal for Serbia.
As a special gesture, President Kremlev presented President Vučić with a pair of boxing gloves once worn by Mike Tyson.
