 Paul John Lauron rules Singapore rapid chess tilt; Joshua Juaneza finishes second By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 23 Feb 2025 Seasoned woodpusher and journeyer Paul John Lauron of the Philippines emerged as the champion in the 13th FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament last February 15, 2025 at the PGP Hall, Serangoon Rd. in Singapore. He had a perfect campaign after tallying 6.0 points in the six-round Swiss system competition applying rapid time control of 15 minutes plus 3 seconds increment. Lauron defeated Dash Ahan of India, Shandilya Harsdeep of India, Qi Yang Benedict Leow of Singapore, Ming Wei Benjamin Wong of Singapore, Lucas Li Zhe Yeo of Singapore and Raman Sundar of Singapore, respectively. Thus, Lauron earned 300 Singapore Dollar plus trophy for his effort. "I Am happy with my performance," said Lauron. Meanwhile, Joshua Juaneza of the Philippines finished in second place at the SGChessHub Rapid held at the Jurong Spring Community Club in Singapore. Juaneza had five wins, one draw and one loss that ended last Saturday, February 22, 2025. He defeated Shayaan Daniyal Shahrudin of Singapore, Naveen Senthil of India and Chee Shun Chin of Singapore. He snapped his third-match winning streak when he lost to International Master Nima Javanbakht of Iran in the fourth round. However, Juaneza bounced back after beating Sherman Surandiran of Australia and Tanush Kapoor of Singapore in the fifth and sixth round then halved the point with Chenyu Wu of Singapore in the seventh and final round.
