Joseph Parker Stuns Martin Bakole with Second-Round Knockout in Riyadh Co-Feature

PhilBoxing.com

In a thrilling co-feature to the highly anticipated Beterbiev vs. Bivol rematch, Joseph Parker (34-3, 23 KOs) delivered a statement performance, stopping the dangerous Martin Bakole (21-2, 15 KOs) in dramatic fashion with a second-round knockout. The fight, held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, showcased Parker’s resilience, precision, and power, as he handed Bakole only the second loss of his career in emphatic style.

From the opening bell, Parker, the former WBO heavyweight champion from New Zealand, came out with a clear game plan. Using his superior footwork and crisp jab, he kept Bakole at bay, peppering the Congolese powerhouse with stiff jabs and occasional right hands. Bakole, known for his relentless pressure and heavy hands, tried to close the distance, waving off Parker’s shots and looking for an opening to land his trademark counters.

Midway through the first round, Bakole surprised Parker with a sneaky light uppercut that momentarily backed the Kiwi up. However, Parker quickly regained his composure, settling into his rhythm and continuing to outbox his opponent.

The second round saw Bakole ramp up the pressure, marching forward and forcing Parker to fight off the back foot. Despite Bakole’s aggression, Parker remained composed, landing powerful shots of his own. One of those shots—a clean right hand—connected solidly with Bakole’s face, but the Congolese fighter shook it off, showing his trademark durability.

The end came at the 2:17 mark of the second round. As Bakole pressed forward, Parker saw an opening and unleashed a devastating overhead right hand that landed flush on Bakole’s temple. The punch sent Bakole crashing to the canvas in a slightly delayed reaction, as the crowd erupted in shock and excitement.

Bakole attempted to beat the count, but his corner came in to stop the fight although seemed to be premature, allowing Parker the winner by technical knockout. The victory marked one of the most impressive performances of Parker’s career and solidified his position as a top contender in the heavyweight division.

In his post-fight interview, an elated Parker praised his team and acknowledged Bakole’s toughness. “Martin is a dangerous fighter, and I knew I had to be smart and disciplined in there,” Parker said. “I felt sharp tonight, and when I saw the opening, I took it. This is a big win for me, and I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

Parker didn’t waste time calling out his next target. “I want Oleksandr Usyk next,” he declared. “He’s one of the best in the world, and I believe I have the skills to challenge him. Let’s make it happen!”

Bakole, meanwhile, was gracious in defeat. “Joseph was the better man tonight,” he admitted. “I’ll go back to the gym, work on my mistakes, and come back stronger. This isn’t the end for me.”

With this victory, Parker has positioned himself as a serious threat in the heavyweight division. His callout of Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion, sets the stage for a potential blockbuster showdown. Whether that fight materializes or not, one thing is clear: Joseph Parker is back, and he’s hungrier than ever.

Joseph Parker’s second-round knockout of Martin Bakole was a masterclass in precision and power. In a fight that showcased his technical skills and ability to adapt under pressure, Parker proved that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. As the boxing world turns its attention to the Beterbiev vs. Bivol main event, Parker’s performance will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

For Martin Bakole, this loss is a setback, but his resilience and determination suggest that he will return stronger. For Joseph Parker, the future looks bright, and the heavyweight division just got a whole lot more interesting.
