Cleveland, OKC Keep Lead But Old Vets Dominate All Stars Squads
By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Feb 2025

Into the NBA All Stars break this weekend and heading to the last third of the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the OKC Thunder have kept their top spots in the East and West, respectively.
Both toting league leading 42-10, the Cavs and the Thunder are making headlines.
However, old veterans mostly from lower ranked teams have dominated the casts of the three All Stars teams that will play in a new format four squads mini tournament NBA All Stars Sunday with the winner of the Rising Stars tournament opening the yearly event Friday.
Three teams with starters picked by fans and completed by league broadcast hosts Shaquille O Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith and named after them comprise the All Stars participants.
The Games will be held Sunday (Monday in PH) at the Golden State's Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
The format is new, but the rosters feature plenty of old familiar names. LeBron James will be playing in his 21st consecutive All-Star Game (and making his 20th consecutive start). Stephen Curry will be playing in his 11th All-Star Game and will be doing so in front of his home fans in San Francisco. Veteran stars Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, Jalen Brunson and Jayson Tatum will all be on the court Sunday as well.
But there are some newcomers too. Like Victor Wembanyama, Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, Tyler Herro and Alperen Sengun will also be making their first All-Star Weekend appearance.
Only four players namely Shai Gilgeous Alexander of OKC and Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland came from either the Thunder or the Cavaliers.
