WBC presents Generation 6 and Aztec belts By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Tue, 28 Jan 2025 This Monday, January 27, the World Boxing Council officially presented two new belts in Mexico City: the Generation Six Green and Gold Belt for Absolute Champions and the Aztec Belt to commemorate the eternal memory of Israel "El Magnífico" Vázquez, which will be awarded to the winner of Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz vs. Ángel Fierro this Saturday, February 1. With the presence of world champions such as: Pipino Cuevas, Ruben Olivares, Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Francisco "Bandido" Vargas, Carlos Cuadras, Erik Ortiz, Carlos Zarate, Rafael "Bazooka" Limon, Jackie Nava, Mariana Juarez, Irma Garcia, Yessica Nery Plata, Esmeralda Moreno, and Marilyn Badillo along with Jesus Mena, Horacio de la Vega, Eng Fernando Espino, Oksana Dramarestka Ambassador of Ukraine in Mexico, Juan Carlos Pelayo, Alberto Reyes and Carlos Mercenario. The Aztec Belt is part of the legendary history of rivalry between Mexicans such as: Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera, Puas Olivares vs Chucho Castillo, Rafael Herrera vs Rodolfo Martinez, Carlos Zarate vs Alfonso Zamora, Israel Vazquez vs Rafael Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera vs Juan Manuel Marquez. The Aztec belt will honor the memory of Israel Vazquez, who died of cancer on December 3. His widow and three children, who will be present at the Cruz vs. Fierro fight, will present it to the winner. Miguel Jurado of Imperio De Metal, whose company makes belts for the WBC with brilliant, innovative and unique craftsmanship, explained that the plate on this Sixth Generation belt is larger. It includes the additional flags of Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Puerto Rico and the Vatican. Each nation’s flag is individually hand-painted. “Boxing has evolved over the years and it has been through the involvement of the WBC. The creation of new rules, of so many protocols to protect boxers, to make boxing safer and fairer. So, this is a new step in the right direction. It is every boxer’s dream to win the green and gold belt and that is why we always have to be at the service of boxers, always taking care of their needs before, during and after the championship years.
