Brian Agina (51.90kg) vs. Syed Muhammad Asif (52.15kg) – Official Weigh-In
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Dec 2024

Undefeated Australian Super Flyweight champion Brian Agina (51.90kg) and his opponent Syed Muhammad Asif (52.15kg) successfully made weight earlier today for their highly anticipated clash tomorrow night in Melbourne. The bout is for the vacant WBC Australasian Super Flyweight title, promoted by Ultimate Promotions.
A victory for Brian Agina could pave the way for a shot at the WBC OPBF champion, the Philippines' Giemel Magramo.
"All going well and Brian wins the WBC Australasian title tomorrow night, this victory will give him a regional WBC title and hopefully put him in line to challenge Giemel Magramo," said Australian Hall of Fame promoter Peter Maniatis. "We are willing to travel to the Philippines to make it happen, or we can invite Magramo to Australia."
This bout marks the third meeting between Agina and Asif. The rivalry began at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where Muhammad Asif defeated Agina in the amateur ranks. However, Agina avenged that loss in the professional arena, claiming the Australian title in their second encounter. Tomorrow’s fight will serve as the ultimate tiebreaker in their heated rivalry.
Agina’s training team, led by Chris Folima and Ricky Leonard, has been pivotal in his rise through the ranks. Looking ahead, promoter Maniatis also mentioned another exciting potential matchup.
"In 2025, we’d like to test Brian Agina against Jayr Raquinel," Maniatis revealed, hinting at future challenges for the rising Australian star.
The stage is set for an electrifying showdown in Melbourne as both fighters aim to claim the prestigious WBC Australasian title and move one step closer to global contention.
