Mandaluyong City---National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. regained his form coming from the loser brackets and edged National Master Jeremy Marticio 2-1 in the Single Knockout Armageddon Tournament (SiKAT).

This was held last Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District in Mandaluyong City.

Bernardino, a certified United States chess master, lost to Marticio in the first game and was relegated in the loser’s bracket.

But the 47-year-old Bernardino, a veteran sportswriter and radio commentator, bounced back from the grave beating Juan Patallo, Roger Abisan, Candidate Master Genghis Imperial and National Master Romeo Alcodia, respectively to move to the Finals. Marticio had to beat all opponents which included Imperial and Alcodia.

In the finals, Bernardino had to beat Marticio twice.
Bernardino (5 minutes), playing black drew with Marticio (6 minutes) in their King's Indian skirmish.
