Today, at the Lemon Tree Hotel in Dubai, the official weigh-in was held for the highly anticipated IBA middleweight bout between Joel Camilleri and Winjun Mindoro. Both fighters weighed in at an identical 74.65kg.
The fight, scheduled for Friday at the Agenda Arena in Dubai, will be contested over 8 rounds at the middleweight limit. The event is part of an exciting 8-bout card organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA).
Pictured above are Hall of Fame promoter Peter Maniatis, Joel Camilleri, and Brendan Gibbons at today’s weigh-in in Dubai.
“Winjun Mindoro is an impressive, big-action puncher,” said Peter Maniatis. “With Brendan Gibbons as his manager, Mindoro will put Joel Camilleri to the test. However, Camilleri, with 40 professional bouts and an Australian championship to his name, is a seasoned and formidable opponent.”
Maniatis added, “This will be an entertaining, action-packed fight. Joel has trained hard with his coach Dino Billinghurst at the Tim Tszyu Academy and will be ready to perform.”
The fight will be streamed live on YouTube via the IBA's official channel.
“Mindoro’s record of 13 wins, all by knockout, is extremely impressive,” Maniatis continued. “He’s also been training in Las Vegas with renowned trainer Bobby McRoy, and it’s clear Mindoro is becoming a feared boxer.”
Joel Camilleri, a seasoned professional, has fought 40 bouts and is currently ranked #24 in the world by BoxRec. He has gone 10 rounds with Tim Tszyu and famously knocked out former world champion Sam Soliman.
