PACQUIAO LOGGED MORE MILES FOR DIAZ FIGHT By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Thu, 26 Jun 2008 LAS VEGAS ? No less than North American Boxing Federation (NABF) superbantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion has confirmed that Manny Pacquiao ?trained very hard? and ?logged more miles in jogging? in preparation for his June 28 ?Lethal Combination? rumble with World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion David Diaz (34-1-1, 17 KOs) set for 12 rounds at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, here. Concepcion, 20, is Pacquiao?s regular running partner along with former RP superflyweight champion Vernie Torres since Pacquiao started revving up in Los Angeles, California first week of May. ?We hit from 6 to 7 miles a day,? confirmed Concepcion, who is himself preparing for a 10-round non-title tiff underneath the Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito battle for the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing federation (IBF) welterweight championship on July 26 at the MGM Grand here. Concepcion revealed that Pacquiao would outsprint them while they negotiated the Griffith Park located in the hilly portion of the Beverly Hills. ?Mabilis tumakbo si Kuya Manny at lalong nagaganahan siya pag nakita niya kami na naka sunod sa likod niya (Pacquiao ran very fast and enjoyed his pace especially when he saw us running behind him),? said the young champion from Virac, Catanduanes who fights for Aljoe Jaro Stable based in Binangonan, Rizal. Concepcion said the distance of their regular run was not the same when the 29-year-old Pacquiao (46-3-2, 34 KOs) was preparing for his rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez whom he edged by 12-round split decision for the WBC superfeatherweight title in March 15 also at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. ?He is determined to defeat Diaz and I believe he will knockout him out in the ninth or tenth round,? predicted Concepcion who is also trained in the Wild Card gym by Fred Roach. At the IBA Gym on Euclid St. June 24 afternoon, Concepcion reiterated his predication after watching Pacquiao in one of the three-time world champion?s final workouts supervised by Roach, Boboy Fernandez and Alex Ariza. ?Sugrado ?yan babagsak si Diaz (I?m very sure of that?Diaz will fall),? he concluded. The pay-per-view card promoted by Top Rank will also feature former Oriental champion and reigning Pan Asia Boxing Association (PABA) lightweight champion Dennis Laurente (28-3-4, 14 KOs), a prot?g? of Johnny Elorde, who will tangle versus Steve Quinones (29-12-1, 9 KOs) for eight rounds. It will be Laurente?s debut in the United States. Pacquiao had earlier announced he would help make the 30-year-old southpaw from Palompon, Leyte a world champion.
