Tagaytay City---International Master Michael Concio Jr. and FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca got off to a blazing start by posting back to back victories in the second round of the Asian Juniors Chess Championships Standard competition at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Concio defeated Arena FIDE Master Sureka Akshat of India after 40 moves of Trompowsky Opening while Arca subdued International Master Aswath S of India after 44 moves of Caro-kann defense.
"We hope to perform well in this event and gain some Elo rating points," said Concio, who brought down Yu Chen Yu of Chinese-Taipei in Sunday's opening round.
"The first two rounds are one of the toughest rounds in any tournament. It usually sets the tone of how you're going to perform," added Arca, winner over Almwayne Magpusao in Round 1.
