PH PRIDE: Filipino chess master wins in Hongkong Chess Open

Manila---Veteran Olympiad member Jan Emmanuel Garcia, a Filipino international master in chess, recently won in the HK-DB Monthly International Open FIDE rated chess tournament last October 4-7, 2024 at Club Siena, Discovery Bay, Hongkong.

Garcia successfully finished a 7-round Swiss System tournament to claim the championship trophy and PHP70,000 in cash in the event participated by 31 chess players from the Host Hongkong, China, India, Russia, Singapore and the Philippines.

Garcia was perfect with seven wins in the 90 minutes and 30 seconds incremental time control format tournament.

He defeated Haoyang Wu representing Hongkong in the first round.

More successful feats followed when he dominated his opponents namely Kyle Chen of Hongkong, Yulun Cai of China, Xuanyu Liu of China, Fuhan Zhang of China, Yuxu Zhou of China and Siddhant Tamhankar of India, respectively.
