Sukpraserd Ponpitak Lands in the Philippines for Jerwin Ancajas Battle (Fight Analysis)

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA, Philippines — Veteran Thai boxer Sukpraserd Ponpitak arrived Thursday evening, September 19, at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 with the mission of fighting popular Davaoeño former world champ "Pretty Boy" Jerwin Ancajas.

Ponpitak (30-19, 20 KO's) and Ancajas (34-4-2, 23 KO's), are scheduled to trade hard blows in an exciting 10-round non-title featherweight rumble this coming Sunday, September 22, at the Mandaluyong City College in Metro Manila, Philippines.

Promoted by legendary Filipino icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, this is a fight that that no boxing fan in Metro Manila can afford to miss.

MORE ABOUT PONTIPAK

Ponpitak, the shy but friendly 36-year-old former IBF Pan-Pacific belt-holder born in Roi-et, Northern Thailand, came-in into the Philippine's capital aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 731.

Smiling upon landing in the blessed land of our Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, Sukpraserd Ponpitak came out onto the Arrival Hall accompanied by his experienced head coach and his boxing manager Mrs. Jidapa Jiraaukkarakul.

A committed husband and father of two small kids, Pontipak wants more than anything else to score a decisive win over the pogi former world champion Ancajas.

A win would open golden doors for the Thai Veteran, a man with mouths to feed.

Will Pontipak pass on the chance of beating Ancajas? Will he try his very best?

We can all bet that he will try his very best!

Will he succeed? That’s another thing.

Will you miss this fight, even if it’s a non-title one?

Let’s consider this:

Pontipak comes from a hard-fought win over taller, stronger, younger Russian slugger Mikael Arutyunyan (11-2, 8 KO's), last June in Bangkok.

In contrast, Ancajas – who was taken out of the world rankings because of his recent loses – comes from a shocking knockout defeat.

Indeed, the beloved "Pretty Boy" got harshly beaten and stopped in nine rounds by Japanese Takuma Inoue (20-1, 5 KO's) last February in Tokyo.

This conqueror Takuma Inoue has not been known to be a power puncher, in fact, totally the opposite.

Takuma is nowhere as a power-hitter as his brother Naoya is.

Yet, Takuma damaged and ended Ancajas inside the limit, surprising and saddening “The Pretty Boy’s” fans.

Therefore, this battle against Pontipak is Jerwin Ancajas' chance to get back on the horse.

It is his opportunity for a second wind, the door to press forward his stellar boxing career.

His fans want him to sail full steam ahead again!

Then, Will the "Pretty Boy" score the knockout win that he badly needs?

ANCAJAS VA PONTIPAK, WHAT ELSE TO BEAR IN MIND

On physical measurements, the southpaw Jerwin Ancajas stands at 5' 6″, slightly taller than the orthodox Thai Pontipak whose height reaches 5" 4½″.

At 32 years of age, Jerwin is four years younger than Ponpitak.

On Saturday’s weigh-in, Both men will have to make no more than 125.6 pounds.

SKILLS

Owner of beautiful boxing skills and an elegant style, Jerwin Ancajas – who is also a Filipino Navy Officer – has been a fan favorite for years.

His educated, effective jab and his good-looking combinations have made him victorious as champion of the world, harvesting victories all over the planet, including Australia and Europe.

However, Probably not anymore in the prime time of his boxing career, Jerwin Ancajas still has so much to offer to his loyal fans.

Pontipak, in contrast, has never had the quality nor elegance, nor accolades, nor popularity of the Filipino.

Yet, the Thai is committed to win on Sunday.

To accomplish that, Pontipak has got the proven heart of a warrior who never quits; he is also very experienced on top of the ring, plus, is well trained, and he is strong!

In addition, Pontipak fights for the love he feels for his beautiful wife and his beloved children. Pontipak wants a win!

So does Ancajas…. He needs a win as well.

You Hermano reading this; If you can, you better come to Mandaluyong to be thrilled with an exciting show and to support our hermano Jerwin.

“Ancajas vs Ponpitak” is the co-main event for the word title rumble featuring Filipino WBC world minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem against unbeaten Mexican challenger Luis Castillo.

I will be there, hermano! Philboxing will be there, you be there too. Let’s go!! May the Best Men Win!!!
