WORLD Boxing Council world minimumweight champion Melvin “Gringo” Jerusalem is excited to defend his title against undefeated Luis “Flechita” Castillo of Mexico in Mandaluyong City on September 22.
“I am very happy that I will defend my WBC belt right here in my hometown,” said the 30-year-old Jerusalem.
Jerusalem said that he will do his best to defend his belt.
“I will give a good fight in the ring,” said Jerusalem.
It will be the first title defense of the 30-year-old Jerusalem, who grabbed the crown from Yudai Shigeoka by a split decision last March 31, 2024 at the International Conference Hall in Nagoya, Japan.
Jerusalem, who hails from Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, now has 22 wins with 12 knockouts and three loses.
Jerusalem also thanked former champion Manny Pacquiao for making this fight happen.
“Thank you so much Senator Manny Pacquiao for giving me this opportunity,” said Jerusalem.
Pacquiao is promoting the fight under the "Blow by Blow" promotions with Sean Gibbons.
Castillo, on the other hand, has already 21 wins with 13 knockouts and one draw.
In his last fight, the 27-year-old Castillo beat Miguel Angel Herrera by a unanimous decision on November 3, 2023 in Aguascalientes.
Meanwhile, pitted in the main supporting bout are former IBF world champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas [34-4-2, 23KOs] of Panabo City against Sukpraserd Ponpitak [30-19-0, 20KOs] of Thailand.
