KO AND FILLER ARE THE THIRD QUALIFIERS FOR THE REYES CUP OCTOBER 15-18

PhilBoxing.com

The countdown starts for Team Asia vs Team Europe, October 15-18.

Ko Pin Yi and Joshua Filler are the third players to secure their place in the inaugural Reyes Cup, taking place this October in partnership with Puyat Sports Inc. and Sky Sports as the broadcaster for the UK & Ireland. The Reyes Cup will adopt the same four-day team format as the Mosconi Cup, pitting the best of Team Asia against Team Europe.

The 2024 US Open Pool Championship served as the final cut-off stage for determining the last two qualifiers for both Team Asia Team Europe. Both Ko and Filler secured their spots following impressive performances at this year’s US Open, with Filler advancing to the semi-finals and Ko reaching the quarterfinals.

Joshua ‘The Killer’ Filler, one of the leading figures of the Mosconi Cup since his MVP debut in 2017, expressed his excitement for the upcoming tournament: "I’m thrilled to be part of this historic event. Team Asia is incredibly strong, but I’m confident that Team Europe will rise to the challenge. I can’t wait to get out there and compete."

Ko Pin Yi, former World Champion, World Pool Master winner, and World Cup of Pool champion also shared his enthusiasm: “I am unbelievably happy to be part of the Team Asia. Competing in this event is truly special for me. I hope my brother Ko Ping Chung can join me on the team, so together we can make history.”

Both Team Europe and Team Asia will each receive two wildcard players to complete their rosters, with wildcards set to be announced soon.

The inaugural Reyes Cup will be held in Manila, Philippines, October 15-18 2024, in honour of pool’s greatest player and tournament namesake, Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes. A World Pool Championship and US Open Pool Championship winner, Reyes is widely regarded as the sport’s greatest-ever player, serving as inspiration for millions of pool fans across the globe.

The tournament will follow in the footsteps of the four-day team format of the Mosconi Cup, which celebrated its 30th anniversary at Alexandra Palace, London last December. Team Asia will be represented by the top three ranked players from the World Nineball Rankings one-year list, with two additional wildcards selected by the Team Asia captain.

Fans can register for ticket alerts for the inaugural Reyes Cup here. Venue and ticket details to be announced in due course.
