SPORTS FACTS AND FIGURES 72: MIKE TYSON VS. JAKE PAUL PRESS CONFERENCE

PhilBoxing.com

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul talked during the press conference of their fight in Manhattan on Sunday. Paul will face the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Tyson on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Paul-Tyson fight will be streamed live on Netflix as the network’s initial venture into professional boxing. With Netflix’s global coverage and Paul-Tyson’s marketability, the network and the organizers are trying to make the event the most-watched boxing match in history.

Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) is very vocal about what he earns for the fight. “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend,” Paul was quoted by Boxing Scene. “He’s going to get his ass knocked out. You’re going to see on BoxRec that I KO’d Mike Tyson. I’m not here to do shit besides make a bag.”

Tyson (56-6, 44 KOs, 2 NCs) then retaliated and explained why he was picked out from retirement to face an opponent who is 31 years younger. “Who else is he going to fight to make this happen?” Tyson answered to the cheer of his fans at the Javits Center in Manhattan. “We have a YouTuber fighting the greatest fighter that ever lived.”

Tyson's ulcer flare up has limited his ability to train fully for the next few weeks. The fight was rescheduled from July 20 after Tyson was able to resume training with no limitations and both fighters had equal time to prepare for this much-awaited matchup.

“It’s happening. We’re all here,” Tyson told the former NFL player turned host Ryan Clark, who emceed the event. “I had a small adversity and I was sick. But I’m better. I feel good.” Tyson told the audience that he has been training in the camp for the past few weeks. “I’m beautiful. I’m OK to fight.”

The fight between Paul and Tyson is sanctioned as a pro heavyweight bout, but it will happen over eight two-minute rounds instead of the standard three-minute rounds and will be fought with 14-ounce gloves instead of the 10-ounce gloves usually worn by heavyweights.
