Andy Ruiz vs Jarrell Miller Ends in Majority Draw

PhilBoxing.com

BMO Stadium, Los Angeles, CA -- In a Heavyweight fight, former Champion Andy Ruiz, Jr (35-2-1 22KOs) and Jarrell Miller (26-1-2, 22KOs) fought to a disputed draw in one of the undercards of the Terence Crawford vs Israel Madrimov Unified super welterweight championship fight Saturday night.

Ruiz started the bout well, landing combinations with speed and used good defense and movement to win first 4 rounds, according to Philboxing.

By the 5th round, Ruiz's 274.4lbs frame seemed to be exhausted as he tried to outwork the 305.6 lbs Miller. Miller seemed to turn the tide and gained momentum winning at least 5 or 6 of the final rounds largely because Ruiz had very little output.

Miller could have helped his cause for victory instead of a "draw" (an even fight) if he had thrown more punches or been more active in the second half of the fight.

Andy Ruiz (L) looks winded while Jarrell Miller (R) looks fresh and dissatisfied after the majority draw verdict was announced in the 12-round heavyweight fight between Ruiz and Miller at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles Saturday night.

At the post fight ring interview, Ruiz initially blamed his performance on inactivity then informed his Interviewer he hurt his right hand and expressed interest in a rematch with Miller.

Miller, during his post fight interview, said he was robbed (of the victory) and blamed the draw decision on it being a hometown decision. Ruiz then interrupted Miller's interview to show his right hand as proof that he did fight Miller with an injury. In all fairness to Ruiz, his hand did appear to be VISIBLY fractured.

Two Judges scored the fight 114-114 draw while the 3rd Judge scored it 116-112 for Miller. Philboxing scored the fight 6 rounds for Miller and 4 rounds for Ruiz.

When being interviewed after the fight, Turki Alalshikh the sponsor of the BMO card, said he thought Miller had defeated Ruiz.

As to what is next for Ruiz, it appears he will have to get treatment for his right hand. Prior to the Ruiz vs Miller match, the Telecasters were hoping for the winner of Ruiz vs Miller to face Bakole. Perhaps Miller will face Bakole as Ruiz is likely unavailable. Let's see what happens.
