Antonio, Arquero enter PCAP semis

San Juan City---Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. and non master Kevin Arquero have entered the semifinals of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Champions Tour at Greenhills Malls in San Juan City on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Antonio defeated International Master Chito Garma while Arquero upset FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus in the Quarter-finals.
Antonio defeated Garma, in their blitz and rapid game while Arquero bounced back beating Literatus in the rapid portion. Literatus, earlier beat Arquero in their blitz skirmish.
With the win, Antonio will face International Master Daniel Quizon in the Semifinals while Arquero will meet FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus in the other final four matchups.
Quizon and Asuela, both 1-2 finishes in the preliminary round that resulted book their seats in.the final four.
The event, sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) offers a top purse of P80,000.
No less than GAB Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera, PCAP Chairman Michael Angelo Ong Chua, PCAP President-Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria, PCAP treasurer Atty. Arnel Batungbakal, PCAP technical committee head Engr. Jojo Buenaventura, Coach Hubert Estrella and Sportsman Jessie Villasin have been invited to the closing rites on Sunday.-Marlon Bernardino-
