RP Blu Boys Suffer Heartbreaking Loss

PhilBoxing.com

Manila---It was a close game between the Philippines' RP Blu Boys and reigning world champion Australia on the 2nd day of the 18th WBSC Men's Softball World Cup, held at Estadio Mundialistas Hermosillenses in Mexico Friday. Fortune favored the Australians, ultimately ending with a narrow 5-4 victory for them.

The game was a thrilling back-and-forth affair. Australia took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the RP Blu Boys responded with three runs in the third inning to take the lead. Australia regained the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, and despite a valiant effort from the Philippines, which included scoring another run in the sixth inning, the Australian defense held firm to secure the victory. The final score was 5-4, with both teams showing strong defensive play, as evidenced by the zero errors recorded.

The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed RP Blu Boys displayed remarkable resilience throughout the game. Justine John, the standout shortstop, delivered a crucial hit and drove in three runs, maintaining his impressive .429 batting average and 1.429 OPS. Outfielder Francis also shone brightly, achieving a .500 batting average with two hits in three at-bats. Third baseman Mark Joseph Quezon contributed significantly with a hit and an RBI, showcasing his ability to get on base and score.

Despite their loss, the close score line reflected the PH team's competitive spirit and ability to challenge the world's best. "It was tough, but the boys showed great heart and determination," said ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier. "This tournament is far from over for us. We're ready to bounce back and give it our all in the next games."

The RP Blu Boys' next challenge will be against Mexico on June 14, 2024, at 17:00 (UTC - 7). This upcoming game is crucial for the Philippines as they aim to keep their tournament hopes alive while using the previous losses as fuel in order to come back stronger.-Marlon Bernardino-
