BLAIR “THE FLAIR” COBBS DEFEATS ADRIEN “THE PROBLEM” BRONER TO BECOME THE WBC PEOPLE’S CHAMPION

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (June 7, 2024) – Don King Productions’ highly anticipated “Fists of Fury” event delivered a spectacular night of fights at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, Saturday night. The evening’s main event featured an action-packed bout between Cincinnati, OH’s Adrien Broner (35-5-1, 24 KOs) and Las Vegas’ Blair Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs). Scoring a knockdown in the second round, Cobbs displayed his power and speed to emerge victorious via unanimous decision winning the WBC People’s Championship.

The co-main event saw a clash between Las Vegas’ Michael Hunter (22-1-2, 15 KOs) and New London, CT’s Cassius Chaney (23-2, 16 KOs) for the vacant WBA Interim Heavyweight Title, with Hunter securing the victory via unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Paterson, NJ’s Ian Green (19-2, 12 KOs) defended his WBA Continental USA Middleweight Title against Toledo, OH’s Roy Barringer (10-5, 6 KOs) in a back-and-forth brawl.

In a WBC International/FECARBOX Lightweight Unification bout, Harrisburg, PA’s Antonio Perez (10-0, 5 KOs) defeated Fort Lauderdale, FL’s Antonio Williams (16-1-1, 7 KOs) via unanimous decision after a clinical showdown between the two prospects.

Lastly, Fort Lauderdale, FL’s De Von Williams (5-0, 5 KOs) scored a fourth-round TKO victory over Travis Floyd (1-9-2) in a super lightweight attraction.

WBC PEOPLE’S CHAMPIONSHIP – WELTERWEIGHT – 10 ROUNDS
Adrien Broner (35-5-1, 24 KOs) vs. Blair Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs)
Result: Cobbs wins via unanimous decision
Scorecards: 97-91, 96-93, 96-93

Cobbs on his victory: “It wasn’t easy. Even after I tracked him on that special shot that hurt him [Adrien Broner], he got up, he’s resilient, and he kept pressing forward. He even got a couple of good shots in. He got me with that right hand one time. Not too many times he landed, but when he did, he landed very well. But Blair “The Flair” prevails. I stay consistent on pressure with high, low, high, low. I make myself as unpredictable as possible.”

Cobbs on what is next: “I saw something on Instagram. Ryan Garcia was rooting for “AB”. That was hurtful because I thought we were boys. But get your girl out of DMs. It’s my time, it’s Blair “The Flair” Cobbs, the most exciting man in boxing and the People’s Champion. Woo!”

WBA GOLD/CONTINENTAL NA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE BOUT – 10 ROUNDS
Cassius Chaney (23-2, 16 KOs) vs. Michael Hunter (22-1-2, 15 KOs)
Result: Hunter wins via unanimous decision
Scorecards: 96-94, 97-93, 96-94 Hunter

Hunter on his victory: “I was so happy to be back in there. I didn’t try to stop him [Cassius Chaney]. It’s so hard to stop a man with two gloves while trying to survive. We’re going to go back to the drawing board and see what I can improve on. My team is happy and I’m happy with the win. I did my job. Fighting is just the show part. I see myself improving in camp. It was frustrating that he wasn’t throwing anything. Usually, we try to make our opponents fall into traps. I’m a smaller heavyweight. I did hurt him a few times, though.”

Hunter on what is next: “I would love to fight Oleksandr Usyk again at any weight. I’d fight him at any weight right now, even lightweight. It’s always been my dream to fight simultaneously in cruiserweight and in heavyweight. So the fact that Usyk is thinking about fighting in cruiserweight again is great.”
